DAVE & MARGIE'S KAUAI VACATION - MAY 2005

Spent our first night at the Marriott Hotel in Lihue. Beautiful, lush grounds reminiscent of our L.A. condo balcony back home.

Swans in the Marriott Hotel pond appear to have failed in their ill-considered Koi Blockade.

Excellent photo of Dave and Margie at Waimea Canyon, taken by a complete stranger.

Interior of our very pleasant Pahio Resort condo, featuring the only fake plant on Kauai.

Birds were always hanging around, eager to greet us, and any food we might have, when we stepped out onto the lanai.

If you look closely you'll see a cardinal on the rail waiting for Dave to drop some food (won't have to wait long).

Kilauea Lighthouse and unidentified woman on the north shore.

The nearly extinct nene (nay-nay) has gone from 30 in 1949 to about 800 today. Here are five of them.

Three members of our group perished on the exhausting trek to the Fern Grotto ...

... but as you can see, the ordeal was worth it for the rest of us.

On the boat ride back from the Fern Grotto, an old Hawaian song was performed by an even older Hawaiian. If you call 95 old.

The renowned and picturesque Anini Beach on the north shore.

A mysterious sea nymph, captured by our camera just seconds before she darts back into the ocean off Anini Beach.

As we enjoy breakfast at the beautiful Princeville Hotel overlooking Hanalei Bay, a scout bird sizes up the food situation.

Evidently the report was positive. Soon an entire bird brigade arrives.

Dave's iPod is 4.1 inches long. The snail is as long as the iPod. Therefore ... Aaagghhh!

Dave holds stomach in for entire 10-second automatic shutter delay period.

To whom it may concern: This is the last time Margie is ever going to put on a bathing suit.

Dave turns up the coolness dial as far as it will go.

And as we head for Lihue, and home, we bid a fond farewell to ...oh, crap ...we're going north.

And as we head for Lihue, and home, we bid a fond farewell to Kauai, the beautiful and enchanted land of Aloha.
